Field service adding work order products

Hi,

I have a question regarding the processes of adding work order products to a work order.

The process:

I go to my work order then products.
Click Add product
Select product
Click Save
The newly created product appears in the product list

My problem:

When I want to add additional products to the work order the process becomes not so efficient. When I have the side panel open the Add product button does not trigger a the creation of a new work order product, nothing happens. What I need to do is to close the side panel then click the Add product, then the process repeats itself. That is OK if i need to add 2-3 products but if I need to add 15-20 products it does feel so efficient, to close and reopen and continue like that. I want to add my product -> click save -> click add product -> click save etc

I tried using the three dots and New. That triggers the creation of a new work order product.
But I run into this problem. The work order product loses it relation to the work order and I need to manually select the correct work order I want to connect my product to so this process is not great either.

Is there a better way of doing this? I understand that side panels is a thing in Field service and i CRM but I'm used to F&O where you add an order line and then on the line directly select the product/quantity/price etc, is there a way to have it like that?

    @Holly Huffman

Apologized that the system is in Swedish in the prints but hopefully you understand.

I have created two new sections on my work order. One for an editable subgrid and one normal subgrid.

When I click Add new work order product the quick create form does not pop up. Instead I get the "normal" create form.

What I realized is that when I have the "Show related record" checked the Quick create does not work for the subgrid. When I uncheck it the Quick create work, but I only want to display related records.

After doing some research some forms with checked Show related record does not work with quick create apparently.

Do you have any tips on how I get this to work?

    /Thomas

    Hi Holly,

I will try point 1 and see if it works better for us.

Otherwise I will talk to my developer colleague and investigate point number 3.

Tom: Yes this is OOB we have always hade the side panel för work order product, not the Quick create form as we do for other tables and forms. But I will test to enable the Quick create form and see if it improves the user experience.

    Thanks for the replys.

This is an interesting issue, and it stems from the fact that your Quick Create forms are being opened in the side panel rather than as a form overlay like they traditionally do. I don't recall ever seeing this in the OOB Field Service App. Have you done any customization to the app or form to have it open in the side panel?

Typically, the new product will default to open as an overlay to the Work Order form. Once it is populated, you do a Save and Close to bring the Work Order back into focus. Then you can add another new one as desired.

Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on your location!

Your challenge with adding multiple work order products efficiently in Field Service is a valid one. The side panel behavior does indeed limit quick entry, but there are some potential optimizations to streamline your workflow.

Optimized Solutions for Adding Work Order Products
    1. Quick Create Form Adjustments
    • If you're using the side panel, ensure that the Quick Create Form for Work Order Products supports multiple sequential entries.
    • Adjust the form behavior to retain the work order reference when adding multiple products.
    2. Inline Grid Editing (F&O Style)
    • Field Service doesn’t have a native inline grid experience like F&O, but you can replicate it by:
      • Using Editable Grids: Enable inline editing for Work Order Products, allowing product, quantity, and price selection directly in the list.
      • Applying a Power Automate flow to auto-fill the Work Order reference after entry.
    3. Custom Command Button for Quick Add
    • Instead of closing the side panel each time, add a custom command button that:
      • Allows you to click "Add Another Product" and pre-fills the last used Work Order.
      • Saves entries without requiring manual work order reassignment.
    4. Bulk Entry Approach
    • If adding many products at once:
      • Use a canvas app or a Power Automate bulk import flow to input multiple products in one step.
      • Create a custom experience where you enter products in a table format, much like F&O.
    Next Steps
    • If Field Service UI limitations persist, a Canvas App for product entry could be an alternative.
