NAV 2016 - Plan for type of WebServices to be Continued for Future Release

Hi Dynamics NAV Team,

I am working on an Integration project for which I need to do analysis on the Webservices used for developing Dynamics NAV 2016.

From the documentation link : https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd355398(v=nav.90).aspx it is clear that it makes use of both SOAP as well as OData.

Is there any plan for deprecating SOAP in the future releases?

Based on the inputs, we can plan on the type of webservices to be used for our development project.

Regards,

Rajinder Singh

    Hi Rajinder,

I agree with other Experts, Even i do not have any updates on any plan of Microsoft for deprecating SOAP.

What feature are you looking for from the webservices.???

As per my knowledge nothing yet disclosed if this is going to be removed in future. As if you check Madeira it still using OData for connecting with PowerBI content pack, same is expected with Dynamics 365. For confirmed information we need to wait for any announcement in this regard from Microsoft itself.

    Rajinder,

No i don't think there is any plan of change for these services, as both of them are needed because of other systems compatability and SOAP is the first service avaialble before OData, so there are many systems already using that type of webservices . So based on your requirement you can plan to use anyone of those.

So far I do not know about the plans to eliminate SOAP type from the future releases. Both options are still valid, and used for slightly different cases.

"SOAP web services allow full flexibility for building operation-centric services. They provide industry standard interoperability. OData standard is well suited for web service applications that require a uniform, flexible, general purpose interface for exposing create retrieve update delete (CRUD) operations on a tabular data model to clients... OData is less suited for applications that are primarily RPC-oriented or in which data operations are constrained to certain prescribed patterns."
