Migration from cloud version to on premises

Hi All,

we have a client that wants to migrate from on cloud to on premises, technically it is possible to deploy new environment on premises, and get a backup from cloud and restore it , but since Microsoft do automatic updates so application release and platform update would be higher than the one on-premises. would the restore still works ? and if so how could i migrate the attachments as well.

Thank you,

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Mohammad,

You have to contact Microsoft for some support on the attachments. Note that the continuous update policy is also applicable to on-premise environments. What is the reason why this customer wants to uptake all the hassle of maintaining hardware, software and updates themselves?

thanks Andre for your reply,, it is because of new policies that data must be on -premises, so i can understand from you i shall deploy the latest on-premises which is 10.0.5 PU 29, then update it same as azure production version? then restore the database to on-premises right ?

    Thank you,,

    Hi Mohammad,

This might work, but you need to contact Microsoft for probably a switch in licensing and the attachments.

    Hi,Mohammad

Andre is right. One version policy is also applicable to on-premise environments. Even your client migration environments from cloud to on-prem. They still have to keep system update to date.

Because there are dual use rights. So your client don't require additional license for D365FO, but require license for windows and SQL.

So for your client,  deploy App10.0.5PU29 OnPrem, upgrade to same build with cloud environment, apply all the customizations, then restore DB

But there is no official support path to restore DB from cloud to On-Premise, you may refer below article

Restore DB from cloud Tier 2 to Tier 1
