Forecast Scheduling

Dear All
I am using Dynamics AX 2009. I have a product for which BOM structure is as follow:

·         FG-001

o   SF-001

§  SF-001-01

·         SF-001-01-01

o   RM-005

·         RM-001

§  RM-002

o   SF-002

§  SF-002-01

o   SF-003

After entering a sales forecast for future date, when I am running forecast scheduling, system is suggesting planned production orders correctly but the only problem is that since “SF-001-01-01” is on the lowest level therefore system is planning for it first and then for  “SF-001-01” with ““SF-001-01” and then for “SF-003” along with “SF-002” and  “SF-001”. And lastly for “FG-001”
What I want is that since “SF-003” takes more time therefore I want to start production for “SF-003” parallel with “SF-001-01-01”.
Now the question is how to tell the system to suggest me planned production orders in the way I want?
Please help
Regards
Muhammad Saad

You will need to utilize the setting in the master planning to replan production orders based on futures (Master Planning>Setup>Plans>Master Plan - Futures tab, update planning checkbox).  This assumes you have futures messages turned on.  This setting only works with Master Scheduling, so if you are generating planned orders based on the Forecast Scheduling, I would suggest using the "Skip Coverage Calculations" checkbox under the forecast plan and run Master Scheduling after Forecast Scheduling in order to generate the planned orders.

The setting will cause the system to see that the futures message for the SF-003 item is showing it cannot be completed until a later date, therefore the other orders must be replanned.

Do you have routes, if you do the system should take the production lead time into account.

If you do not have routes (or you are planning outside the capacity time fence) the system shoudl take the inventory lead time into account. Try setting a long inventory lead time on SF-003

Above mentioned problem is not solved yet but there are other problems which have been arisen as follow:

My client is manufacturer of food items and is an FMCG following are the constraints that needs to be considered during planning but I don’t know how to define these contains in system:

    Number 1

Semi-Finished goods which are produced are to be consumed on the same day we cannot hold it for other day and therefore Planed Production Order should start and end on the same day.

But for some FGs, SFGs should be started and finished on one day before.

SFGs are required because one Semi-Finished Goods (SFG) is used in multiple FGs (Finished Goods).

    Number 2

While performing planning system should consider Minimum Maximum inventory along with Sales Forecast

    Number 3

Minimum production run should be defined in system i.e. in term of number of days which may be 8 hours or 13 hours

    Number 4

Minimum and maximum inventory should be calculated in terms of number of days’ sales rather than in terms of number of unit

    Number 5

There is an Economic Production run for each product i.e. in case one product is planned to be produced it is to be produced for three days continuously so that setup time can be minimized

Note: We are using Dynamics AX-2009, Production 2

Please help how to cover these aspects while planning

    Regards

Did you try the futures settings and running Master Scheduling I mentioned above for the previous issue?

Number 1 - There is no way to force a production order to have a scheduled start and end date be the same without modification.  It is all a factor of Capacity of the work centers as defined by the calendars and other work and the amount of work for this job.  If it happens to start at 2 pm because that is the first available time slot and you only have 3 hours available on that day, but the job is for 8 hours, then the end date will naturally be on the second day.

Number 2 - If you are running Master Scheduling along with Forecast Scheduling, the system WILL consider Minimum and Maximum inventory (not sure if you mean minimum and maximum stocking quantity or minimum and maximum order quantiy, but either way, it will consider this).

Number 3 - There is no setting for minimum order quantity or standard order quantity in terms of hours, only units.

Number 4 - If you are referring to Minimum and Maximum stocking levels, not minimum and maximum order quantities, then the only way to set Minimum stocking levels is to run the Safety Stock Journal which looks at historical usage to determine the appropriate Minimum Safety Stock quantity.  This also has the capability to calculate standard deviation for use with service level settings.  This is run by the user and posted periodically, so it does not do it automatically.  There is nothing that will set the Maximum stocking quantity though.  There is also nothing that will set the minimum and maximum order quantity values.

Number 5 - The only way to set an Economic Production quantity is through the Standard Order Quantity field, but it is based on units not time, so the user would have to know what quantity is produced in a 3 day period.

Thanks Robert for being so helpful actually while testing pervious query we came across above mentioned questions so we ignored that thing and focused on these questions because for my client these factors are more important.

By the way do you know someone or have you implemented AX in FMCG food industry or have come across similar queries, I mean how to convince my client that these factors cannot be considered by system and these factors are not important for planning.
