Expand the PDF Generation pop-up

Hi All
We have a requirement of a client where we need to send a PDF document to a document management system (other then sharepoint). They are very much of the upcoming PDF generation pop-up.
Is there a way to pick up the generated document once it is created, automatically store it to the timeline or have an indication of the template that is chosen by the user when he generates a document? They can either download it or send it via e-mail but we need to store it in all cases in the document management system.

We will be using the new PDF generation capabilities that will be released with the 2020 Wave 2 release.
Technically speaking we need a way to expand the new PDF generation popup (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2020wave2/sales/dynamics365-sales/simplify-document-workflows-enhanced-pdf-capabilities), by either adding a custom option or adding an extra event in the existing options. Or, is there a way to tap into the document generation process so that we could launch an extra flow/process based upon that result.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Partner,

The new feature about PDF is supported for sending email to others with attachment after create it automatically.

After you sending email, the email will be available in the quote timeline.

And actually the PDF templates are the word templates for quote.

But for now we could get the template from D365 directly, I suggest that you could add a field to store the template name and put it on all the templates so that you could know the template.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your answer!

Where would I add that field?

We need the output of 'What template is used' but we don't seem to get that output. So I don't really see where we should add that field and who should fill in that field.

    Hi Partner,

As we know the templates are customizable  by word so we could create a field for Quote first and then add it into word template.

    Here are the steps.

1.Create a new field named templateName in Quote entity.

2.Download the  wordtemplate from Quote and enable your word Developer Ribbons.

3.Add the templateName into the template.

    4.Save and upload this template.

5.Fill in the template name in to the field an download the word template to check the result.

Here you could also set the templateName as option set field and add all the templates into it manually so that when you editing quotes, you just need to choose the correct template for the record.

And in template editing, add the Dropdownlist control for the templateName field.

    Hi Leo,

Thanks for this explanation, however this doesn't meet our requirement as this requires the User to indicate their template twice.

Once on the form and once when generation the PDF. But it is definitely a possible solution.

We would need to automatically capture the template that is used after the user generated the PDF. This is something that we didn't manage to so far.

    Kind regards,

    Wannes

    Hi Wannes,

Unfortunately, automatically get the template name for user and show it is no supported in D365 now.

You could raise an idea to Microsoft Team about this requirement.

    Regards,

    Leo
