Holographic anchor - functionality question

Hey 365 Community,

I'm currently working on building a guide for a customer and we're going to be using both real world QR functionality as well as a separate program with only Mixed reality holograms to work with.

My customer saw that on the tutorial for Guides there was no QR, Circular, or Holographic anchor and rather the user was just told to find an open space and it will anchor to that location... So he wants that functionality.

I know that I can do that type of functionality in UNITY but I want to keep this strictly in guides. Is there a way to do that type of anchor? I've found some work arounds but my customer still wants it to be easier for the end user.

Thank you!!!

I have the same question (0)

Hi boliver91, the tutorial/demo is a special case. A real guide must use one of the three anchor types described here: docs.microsoft.com/.../pc-app-anchor. The holographic anchor seems closest to your requirements as you can place them anywhere. I'm curious where your customer is having trouble with that experience?

    hi david -

we're new to guides as well & decided to pursue the product after viewing the tutorial/demo in the hololens 2.

as you know, in that demo, the holographic workbench persists in 3d space between tasks/steps of the guide.

you mention in your comment that the demo uses a "special case".

nevertheless, we would like to replicate this same type of feature in our solution.

can you provide guidance on how this effect could be achieved?

essentially, we want to anchor to a hologram for the entire guide & have this hologram remain unchanged, just like in your tutorial.

    thanks,

    andrew

hi - i noticed that this question was from about a year and a half ago. i'm curious, did you ever find a solution? we're trying to do the same thing. it's a bit unfortunate that microsoft would showcase a demo that couldn't be replicated with the product itself.

    thanks,

    andrew

Check out Azure Object Anchors (in preview):

This feature lets you scan a piece of equipment and use that equipment as an anchor. It is not exactly as described in this original thread but might be closer to your needs. Let me know what you think.
