    Hi Khalil,

The most proper solution would be to create a new item. Then you can assign a inventory dimension group which has the Batch dimension enabled. You can probably move the current on-hand to the new item and assign a batch number as well.

    Hi Khalil,

my recommendation is to adapt the existing stock on hand quickly to also have a batch number and then always work with batch numbers for this items. (Why do I recommend it: In my experience it's easier for the users if they have consistent behaviour for an item and always follow the same rules with it.)

To change the existing stock on hand, you can do the following:

    • Manually create a dummy batch number to use for the existing stock on hand
    • Change the item to a dimension group that allows for "Blank Issue" for batches; all other dimension group settings should be as with the item's old dimension group. (Make sure not to modify the item's current dimension group because that would affect all other items with that group, too, which you do not want)
    • Create an inventory journal of type transfer.
    • For each stock on hand for the item, create a transfer line. F.ex. if you use dimensions site and warehouse and have stock in two sites with 3 warehouses each, you would create 6 transfer lines in the journal, each with the quantity of stock on hand for that dimension combination. Enter the existing dimensions both in the from and to dimension fields (f.ex. from site and to site, from warehouse and to warehouse)
    • On each line, leave the "from batch" empty and set the "to batch" to your dummy batch number
    • Post the journal and verify that all stock on hand now has batch numbers.
    • Change the item's dimension group to the target dimension group using batch (probably without allowing blank issue for batch)

    Additional recommendations:

    • Test the procedure in a non-production system before executing in production.
    • Do the modifications in a time when you know that nobody does any postings on this item and when all ongoing transactions for this item are closed. If that's not possible, you'll have to take special care with these open transactions and their associated stock on hand entries.

Hope this gives you an idea how to proceed - the details will depend on your exact setup, of course!

    Kind regards,

    Annette

Ah, sorry, I took too long writing ... should have checked whether there already was an answer in the meantime.
