Remote errors

ReportReport

Hi all

Running AX 2012 R3 CU9

On every test system we've ever had, we've everyone had to go into SSRS Reporting Services and enabled "remote errors" - to allow some reporting errors to display on the client.

I just had to enable this on our Production environment so we could troubleshoot an issue.

My question is: is there a reason it's disabled by default in all the environments? I am a bit anxious as to whether I should switch it off again now the issue has been resolved. I can't see a downside, but I assumed it must be disabled for a reason?

For the moment, I've switched it back off until I have a y/n confirmation. I couldn't find any documentation stating the costs/benefits of leaving it on

Thanks very much in advance

Luke

This does not have much to do with AX, more with SSRS reporting. Why it is disabled by default is a good question, maybe an SSRS expert could answer if you ask it on the correct forum on TechNet.

My guess would be that if a report is correctly designed (and being live in a Production instance), then you would not expect an error at all, so customer-facing documents should not produce stack traces i.e. through a website or client.

Test system is a different story, for those you flick the configuration flag on, then you could troubleshoot an incorrectly designed report that generates errors.
