As I do not have access to Smartlist Designer I had to export info into Excel and make my own list.
You could create a field - smartlist designer or in excel
" Sales transactions would work and Sales Line "
Profit Margin is not an available add on
You could use smartlist. Sales transactions would work and Sales Line items would be good too. Smartlist does have quantity, extended cost, extended price, unit cost, unit price and salesperson info. You might have to add a few fields (admin - smartlist). Play with it and check out all the fields available. Then you could dump it into excel and format it from there.

This report is good for an overall look but I need to drill down to the item level per invoice !!!

You could try the 'Period Sales Analysis Report' (Sales-Reports-Analysis)
This report gives you sales, returns, cost, gross profit, profit margin, writeoff, discounts taken, etc. You can run it in a variety of ways too!
In addition to the fact that you can create a custom report for this purpose, you can still use the Smartlist to get a quick result. Check this out How to create SOP Salesperson Report in Smartlist
