How have you implemented credit card processing in D365 F&O?

For our previous ERP solution, our Finance department made use of Paypal Payflow Pro. Not too thrilled by the option of switching to either of the currently provided processing partner solutions, we were directed to explore implementation of a payment connector for F&O. While implementing one of these is nominally straightforward, F&O's workflow of requiring the saving of cards and therefore using tokenization was a change from our past use case, and we found it to be one the Payflow API currently does not support. Some conversations with Microsoft Support indicated that this workflow cannot be modified, so Payflow really just isn't a viable option, at least without assuming some unacceptable liability with internal tokenization.

Back to the drawing board, we're trying to gather information about what other options might be viable and worth proposing, other than the two out-of-the-box solutions. What have you done for your org? Implemented payment connectors with some other processing service? Other clever tricks? Please share your experiences.

The microsoft link is for AX, and is severely out of date, and not applicable, including the 2011 white paper link on the landing page. Trideapartners.com does not support SSL so I was not able to review the link for security reasons, but the URL name also refers to AX, not D365 and they are very different.

But there are some ISV solutions for that.
