DAX2012 all open LedgerJournalTrans records were deleted

Posted on by 150

Hi Forum

If you witness that all open LedgerJournalTrans records are deleted and you wan't to find the user who dit it. What can you do? I approximately know the time of the delete-action.

I believe deleting all LedgerJournalTrans records is possible from a menu in the LedgerJournalTrans records form. But no Delete databaselogging is active for this table. The SysLastvalue table does not log the DateTime. There is no infolog created when you use this menu. Is it possible to find some logging of the deletion? I've tried but no luck.

I believe it is possible to delete all open LedgerJournalTrans records from a Excel sheet as well. But is this logged somewhere as a Excel sheets uses an AIF port for Ax communication?

I was looking into the database transaction log. But it only usefull a few hours after the deletion. Yes, I've been thinking about a backup restore of the database on a point one hour after the deletion.

    Hi Ergün

For sure it is possible for an enduser to delete all open ledgerjournal records in the system. We have tried it ourselves. In the Ledgerjournal lines form just select Delete lines from the Functions menu. Or use an ordinary Excel connection to Ax to delete lines in Ax tables.

    Hi André

Thank you for your answer. For us it is a question of knowing how this could happen. A question of finding out whether is was a human error or a technical error. Lots and lots of customizations are in the system btw.

Several times in my career I've seen tables get corrupted (new index etc). Sometimes records are not visible.

Are you sure the records are deleted? (You can check with a simple select)

I can't understand Why would they delete open records in LedgerJournalTrans (I hope it was a technical issue.)

    Hi Ebbe,

There is a cleanup job for posted journal, but you are mentioning not posted lines. I thought that you can enable AIF logging on the ports, but this is not enabled by default then. If database log is not enabled, it will be very hard to find the person who did it.

If you are considering a restore from the backup, then it would make sense to choose a time before the delete action, not after. You can also restore the backup in a new database and use SQL scripts to copy the lines in your production environment. For sure, test it on a test environment first.
