Program Could not connect to server NAV 2016

Hi all,

this is a pretty basic question I guess..

how do you connect the client computer to the server?

Because yesterday we just got a huge lightning strike in our area resulting a short circuit in the modem which we use to connect to the server. Then we replaced the modem and re-setting the configuration like it used to be but the client could not connect to our server. Help would be needed ASAP.

PS what we used to do is just click on the NAV icon, then there will be a box asking us for username and password with a text of our IP Address and sign in.. that's what we usually do..

here is the Server address

XX.XX.XX.XX:7046/DynamicsNAV90

    Okay! I hope this helps..

First of all, you need to access your modem eg 192.168.x.x and log in onto the admin account. From there, go to the configuration where you can access your virtual server that is allowing other clients to connect to NAV system *Its the place where you do your Port Mapping probably..

Then, you should check your local server ipv4 address by going to Command Prompt -- ipconfig, if the virtual server's Local ip Address didn't match, it would be the problem that causing unsuccessful connection to the server. Cause from my experience on how to solve my problem above, the local ip address has changed *since I replace my old router (It was grounded because of the lightning strike) Leave the port mapping untouched try to solve them by just matching with your local ip address.

I hope it solve your problem....

RE: Program Could not connect to server NAV 2016

First of all, thank you Karldjaw for your answer. I will try to explain in a better way what is happening.

As you have said, this could be considered an intranet instalaltion. I've mnade a complete installation into a server, with the development environment, the server, and everything. There is where i do all the developments. The server is into our customer`s office.

All the laptops are connected into the network, and they are using this URL for the connection from the client:

"SRV-DC:7046/DynamicsNAV110", where SRV-DC is the server's name. This instalaltion has been working for almost a year.

Now, the customer want to connect the client from outside that network, because he has a new pavilion. In the router, we have made a port redirection, the internal 7046 is the external 8046. So, I'm trying to connect he client from my office to the URL "x.xxx.xx.xx:8046/DynamicsNAV110", whew x.xxx.xx.xx is the publi IP of the server.

When I try lo start the client introducing an invalid user and password, I get the invalid user error, so it seems that it is validating against the server.

But if I introduce as valid user and password, i got this error: "The cprogram could not create a connection with the server". But if I go to the server's event viewer, I see the message "A user as been authenticated correctly into the server"

This is what is driving me really mad....

From my understanding, you are currently connected through your own network server am I right? In other words, the connection is based on intranet instead of internet.. If so, you should sort of "Hard code" them into each specific clients computer in order to be able to connect through internet connections. If my iterations is correct, you can personal message me so that I can lead you on how to solve the problem..

RE: Program Could not connect to server NAV 2016

The problem is not aboput the user. I'm using this user from different clients intalled into the ntwork of our customer. Now, I need to connect a clien from outside the network, and here is where I found the problem.

As I've said, I saw that the user is authenticated, because I can see it on the server's event viewer. But the connection cannot be established....

Could you provide some screenshots? Is it only 1 client thats unable to connect to the server or is it all of the clients?

RE: Program Could not connect to server NAV 2016

    Hi everyone,

SOrry for writing in this old post, but I'm finding this same error, and it's quite strange. The issue is that I realize that the server is validating the user and password, becasue I can see it in the server's event viewer. But the client could not open the connection.... Why could be this happening??

    Thank you very much

OK here is why I got that problem..

The modem that we replaced does not support an IP and port mapping. Resulting the client computer unable to detect the connection to the server.

    5. Open Dynamics Administrator tool to check service configuration.

    6. On the server where your service (Dynamics NAV) is running there you need to find the event viewer.
