AX 2012 R2 CU7 Development Workspace is not opening when upgrading

Hello all,

I am upgrading from AX 4.0 to AX 2012 R2 CU7 and faced an issue when opening development workspace.

It is not opening. Neither menu is active (Windows>New Development Workspace) nor Ctrl+Shift+W is working. Some times it does not work because it needs focus on some form (e.g. import ald to modelstore and any other that you can open from checklist). I have tried opening any form but still no luck.

I assume this is an issue of CU7 as in CU6 its working fine.

The workaround to this issue is to set -development command on the shortcut or in client configuration.

Regards,

Evaldas

    Hello Evaldas,

same here but the upgrade was from AX 2012 R2 CU6 to CU7.

just a note: the application was migrated from an AX 2012 to AX 2012 R2 (upgrade in place).

I suppose some issue on checklist tables, but i haven't yet found the real problem.

    Best Regards,

    Marco

If you are unable to open developer workspace by pressing CTRL+D, it might be due to some customization to system classes (some ISV or VAR solution installed?).

    Hi,

In my case solution has couple ISV installed.

Tommy, do you know which class exactly could cause shortcut not working?

BTW, Ctrl+D suppose to open AOT thou it opens developer workspace as well (but not in my case ) . Ctrl+Shift+W is for developer workspace.

I am experiencing the same issue with a new install. There are no VAR or ISV layers installed.  CTRL + D, CTRL+Shift+W, and the menu items are all not working.

Can you please verify that your user is indeed "system administrator"?

For me, I am still in the setup stage (I just imported a new var model) and so there are no users in the database.  I can open a dev workspace using ax32.exe -development.

So, the only known workaround so far is -development command.  Looking forward for the fix from Microsoft.

    Hi Evaldas,

Have you upgraded the license file , just import the license file and try opening the Development WorkSpace by pressing Ctrl + D.

The license file had been updated.  The issue went away after the Upgrade checklist was fully completed, so I can only assume it had something to do with that.  It was a little painful to fix upgrade issues without the shortcut to a Development Workspace, but I just worked around it.
