How to Extend Aged Accounts Receivable Report with More Aging Buckets?

How to Add More Aging Buckets (6,7) in Aged Accounts Receivable Report (120) – Accessing Protected Variables?

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to extend the Aged Accounts Receivable report (Report 120) in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to support 7 aging buckets (instead of the default 5).

✅ What’s Already Available:

Report 120 already includes 5 fixed aging buckets, using arrays like:

PeriodStartDate: array[5] of Date;
PeriodEndDate: array[5] of Date;
HeaderText: array[5] of Text[30];
TotalCustLedgEntry: array[5] of Record "Cust. Ledger Entry";
These are local or protected variables, so they can’t be accessed or extended from a reportextension.

🔧 What I Tried:

  • Created a reportextension to:

  • Add new request page fields for "Aged As Of", "Period Length", "Aging By", and "Heading Type".
  • Add HeaderTexts[1..7], and compute custom PeriodStartDates[1..7] and PeriodEndDates[1..7].
  • Add new columns and headings for bucket 6 and 7  .

🚫 Problem:

  • Since arrays like PeriodStartDate and TotalCustLedgEntry are local/protected in the base report, I cannot access or override them.
  • Even if I define my own arrays (HeaderTexts, PeriodDates), I can't influence the report’s grouping, data logic, or totals because the original calculations use their own internal arrays.

  • No integration events exist to hook into aging calculation logic like InsertTemp, CalcDates, or CreateHeadings.

❓ My Questions:

  1. Is there any supported way to extend aging buckets beyond 5 in Report 120 without rewriting the whole report
  2. Can we access or override protected/local arrays in a reportextension?
  3. Is the only option to copy the standard Report 120 into a custom report and replace the logic?
  4. Any plans from Microsoft to make aging logic extensible using events or interface patterns?

I appreciate any insights or guidance on this. Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

    The most effective solution is to create a custom report by copying Report 120, allowing full control over the aging logic and layout.

    Currently, Microsoft hasn't provided extensibility hooks for this report, so a custom implementation remains the recommended approach.

    Hello @Padmavathy,

    The practical approach is to create a custom copy of Report 120 and modify the aging bucket logic as needed.

    I also checked the standard reports and there is indeed no easy way to do it except to copy the entire report and create it from scratch.
    1. No.
    2. No.
    3. Yes
    4. No.
