I would like to know if I should customize the existing case views according to my requirements? Or create a new view with same name?
For example- OOB "Active Case" view is present. I want an "Active Case" view with some extra columns. How to proceed?

Yes. we can modified the existing OOB case views and to add new columns please follow below steps:
1. Create One new Solution.
2. Click on Add Existing button -> Tables-> Case Entity as shown below:
3. After this, select "Active Case" then open the same view to add new column in it as shown below:

It depends on your own needs.
If you just want to simply customize, for example by adding a few columns，you can go settings > Customizations > Customize the system > Entities > Cases > View to open the view you need and add columns.
If you need to do more complex customization, it is better to create a new view.
Or you can try to create personal views.
