Percentage controlled checkbox on formula line

while creating a formula, there is a percentage controlled check box on the formula line. What is it used for ? It becomes non-editable if I select a catch weight item, not sure why.

I am new to this concept , so if someone can simplify this for my, it would be really helpful.

I'm not an expert on the Supply Chain side, but does the documentation on formulas help?

Otherwise, what's the business requirement you're trying to solve? That might be a better place to start.
