Reporting Tools Setup in GP 18.2

Good Day,

I am trying to get the ssrs data to fill in to the Reporting Tools Setup window for GP18.2 but the SSRS window doesnt show my sql instance. Instead it shows the instance as SSRS which seems to be some default.

How do i get the Reporting Tools Setup window to reflect information for my sql instance so the reports can be deployed and by extension for the Dynamics GP install to be completed?

Normally, Dynamics GP won't put in 'default' information for your SQL Reporting Services in the Reporting Tools Setup window, but it may be possible that Reporting Services reports were configured in Dynamics GP at a previous date or version, thus you might have some old data in the SY40800 table, which is the Reporting Tools Setup table in the DYNAMICS/system database.

That being said, when deploying SQL Reporting Services reports from Dynamics GP, you should be able to put in the new Report Server and new Report Manager URLs, which are required, then deploy the SSRS reports onto your new Reporting Services environment.

Let us know what you find.

    Thank you,

Hi Derrick, I meant the Reporting Services Window shows a SSRS instance of Reporting Services which I didn't configure. It seems to be the way that SSRS 2017 and 2019 is made to work.

Shortly after this post, I continued trying. The issue was due to me not being able to connect SSRS to use my older Reporting Services database due to encryption key I believe (no error was detected in the configuration manager). Once I created a new database for Reporting Services using the Configuration Manager and used the regular Instance of SSRS given in the Configuration Manager (named SSRS), I was able to deploy the Reports in GP.

I was pretty worried that I had a named instance of SQL and wasn't seeing my instance name in the SSRS Configuration Manager. Which didn't matter in the end as although my GP was installed to a named SQL Instance, the reports were deployed with the instance given by SSRS which is an instance named SSRS (again not the name of my instance).

SQL 2017 and 2019 are different, in that you cannot install SQL Reporting Services at the same time you install the SQL Server instance, like in prior versions.

I know in prior versions, you could add Reporting Services to the SQL install, then choose whether you wanted to configure it then or later. Normally, I would choose to configure it later after I was done installing SQL Server and when setting up SSRS reports, but I'm sure everyone has their own process.

With SQL 2017 and 2019, my thoughts are it should still work the same way in that when you install it, you're configuring it either during the install, or launching it once it is installed. I can't remember off-hand whether you can have multiple installs of Reporting Services installed for different SQL instances on a server, I'm thinking you can, but not 100%.

I'm happy to hear you got the reports deployed.

    Thanks,
