Batch Job Issue - Scheduled start date/time passes, but job does not go from Waiting to Executing status

Hello All:

Here are the steps I took:

1) Ended a recurring job initiated under another user id (was executing every 15 minutes)

2) Create the same batch job under my user using the same recurrence information with a future start date/time.

3) Start date/time passes, but job does not go from "Waiting" to "Executing".

Have tried changing job from "Waiting" to "Withhold" and back to "Waiting", still no luck.

Thanks,

Paul

    Hi Paul,

Which batch group was used in your new batch job? Is this batch group enabled on one of the batch servers?

    Hi Andre:

How do I find the Batch Group associated with a batch Job?  Looks like we have 2 defined: "Blank" and "DataUpdate", but I don't see how to associate a batch job to a batch group.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi PaulVT,

Select the batch job and hit 'View tasks'. On the 'General' tab, you'll find the Batch group. You'll probably need to set the job to Withhold before you can change it.

    Hi PaulVT,

Guy informed you how to find out which batch group is used on a batch task. Did you check if both batch groups are assigned to a batch server?

    Guy/Andre:

Thanks for your answers.  Well I guess it would help if I added a task to the report job (yes, this is my first time creating a batch job).   I attempted to add a task with the same information as the original batch job, but the Class Name did not show in the Class Name drop down list.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

So in fact you have now an "empty" batch record without tasks. That explains why it is not running. Usually you can go to a menu option (e.g. periodic options) and set batch parameters to run using the batch server. What job was exactly running? What was it doing?

You seem to be a bit confused about the types of batches you could run.

They could be based either on the old RunBaseBatch framework (or essentially any classes which implement the object Batchable), or on the new SysOperation framework.

You can manually schedule by adding a batch task only the first one. SysOperation framework are different slightly, they must be triggered by opening a menu item that is correctly decorated on what class to run.

As suggested by André you should find the corresponding menu item to run your batch task, and schedule it from there, providing any extra parameters which are required, and also putting it in the right batch group that is linked with a batch server, so it would actually be picked up for processing once scheduled. If you want to run a report in batch, that also utilizes the RunBaseBatch framework, but you still cannot schedule it manually.

Please note that some batch groups could be set to fixed values, like in case of Stock closing, so that batch group should also be added to the batch server, or it will stay forever in Waiting or Executing status.
