NAV - Web client

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have installed NAV 2015 - Windows client on my laptop. If the NAV 2015 web-client is installed, then is it possible to create new transactions, post and view reports, from a remote location having internet connectivity. With web-client, are there any performance issues due to internet connectivity speed, while connecting and updating to the server?

    RE: NAV - Web client

Yes you can connect to NAV server with the webclient and it is the whole point of introducing web client.

There is two drawbacks in the webclient.

    1. User interface is different and you will have to get used to the new interface.

    2. Slowness of the client. - Even in the own server, webclient response was slower than the normal client.

Addition to that webclient use internal web services of NAV and it use these web services to communicate with the server and client. As every web application, internet connection speed and the quality will directly have an impact on the quality of the service.

Therefore to have a quality and uninterrupted client you need to have a high speed and smooth internet connection.

Plus your server should meet the required requirements so that NAV can process the requests and response to webclient without a delay.

    RE: NAV - Web client

    hi,

as every web aplication the nav web client, which uses internally the nav web services, is dependent on the network quality. but you can influence the performance with the web.config on client side and the customsettings.config on server side.

    follow

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh168732(v=nav.80).aspx

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dd355055(v=nav.70).aspx

    additional:

    * high speed net/inet connection (web client <--> nav server)

    * client/server hardware: ssd hard drive as system drive, ram >= 8gb, high performance cpu

    * high speed connection between nav server and database
