Master Data Services Connection giving an error

AX 2012 R3,

Location is DAT/Data import export framework/Area page/Master Data Management/Configure SQL Server Master Data Services Connection

When I test the connection I get the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

The entire installation is on my local machine. SQL Server, MDS, AOS, AX. Any ideas on what I am missing?

Everything is fixed now, I needed to synchronize the database. Thanks again for the help.

Ah, ok, that fixed the problem. Now I have to deal with other issues in the process. Will start a new thread if needed.

Thanks again to all that helped.

Sql 2017 mdm and ax2012 compatibilty?

    No idea.

But. I think your setup isn't right. You have to specify the sql server(instance) not the mdc webservice(webapplication) url. This is what Sohaib already mentioned.

here is a link which containes a lot of other related links

AX works but I don't know if MDS integration will work.

I am afraid, i haven't seen any blogpost about support of SQL2017 with AX2012. if there is, i must be unaware. You may want to check compatibility of SQL 2017 for AX2012 with Microsoft support

Sorry, I have SQL Server 2017. Is it compatible with AX 2012R3 for master data services?

you may want to recheck everything please, its a very general sql error and generally nothing to do with AX. Please check all points for connection.

Unfortunately i don't have resources o reproduce your issue on my local VHD at moment, or else i would love to take it with you.

Remote connection is on. I was able to create a spreadsheet that connected to the DB. The port is open for TCP in the inbound rules

Do you want to see if the sql port number 1433 is open, as well is remote browsing and TCP/IP enabled in SQL configuration?

For testing you can try to connect an SQL workbook with DB.
