Populate new field in CONTACT from existing field in ACCOUNT

Hello,

We need to populate already existing information from an existing field in the ACCOUNT view to a new field that we created in the CONTACT view.

I tried adding the same field in the Contacts / Views (using the form builder) but the new CONTACT field is empty and does not port information that sits in the same field in the ACCOUNT view.

Have over 17,000+ accounts and 40,000+ contacts associated with those accounts, and so cannot map all of them manually.

Is there any way to automate this task please?

thank you!

    Hi chronos,

Do you want to populate the value of the contact field based on the value of the field on the contact's parent account record? Also, is this a one off task or do you need the fields to constantly remain in sync?

This forum topic explains some approaches to solving this problem.

    Hi Chronos,

There are a couple of scenarios here.

Do you need to populate all the existing contacts that are associated with the existing accounts? If that is the case, I would probably use an SSIS package with Kingswaysoft for that to update all the contact records.

The second step is that you would want to keep this in sync. You can use a workflow or plugin to achieve this. When this particular field on the account record is updated, update all the related contacts. If you are not comfortable with plugins you can use Ultimate Workflow Toolkit: butenko.pro/.../ultimate-workflow-toolkit-v1-5-0-0 or Dynamics 365 Workflow Tools: github.com/.../Dynamics-365-Workflow-Tools (previous versions available for both to support CRM 2013).

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Adrian,

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, we need to populate the value of the Contact field using an existing value in its parent Account record. Need these fields to be constantly in sync.

Do you actually need to modify the value in the Contact form, or only display it? If only display, then you can create a Quick View for Account and display it in the Contact form. If you need to edit it in the contact form, then one of the solutions above should work.
