Custom Fiscal Periods in each year?

(0) ShareShare

When there are irregular monthly financial calendar dates I have to select year and split the periods to get the correct dates for each period as there's no other way to get this done in the GUI. The issue I have is that each period is then set to Quarter 1 and cannot be changed with an error of "The quarter you have selected is not in sequence."

Is there any other way to accomplish this?

    Hi Jack,

In case of manual periods, the logic to be able to have he correct Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4 is not supported in standard AX. Possibly with a small customization or import (e.g. with help of DIXF) of the periods you can get your requirement fulfilled.

    Thanks Andre.

Is the customization oriented to open the Quarters to the new periods? How complex do you think this will be?

You can indeed keep the Quarter field correct as you split fiscal periods in a new fiscal year.

The trick is to keep adjusting the Quarter of the Closing period (the LAST period of the fiscal year) so it allows for the fiscal period you just added to be adjusted.

For example, create the fiscal year as a single period of 1 year.

Change the Quarter of the Closing period to Quarter 2.  It will not complain because the sequence is preserved.

Divide the first Operating period to create period two.  Leave period two as Quarter 1.

Divide the second Operating period to create period three.  Leave period three as Quarter 1.

Divide the third Operating period to create period four.  Change period four to Quarter 2.  It will not complain because the sequence is again preserved.

Change the Quarter of the Closing period to Quarter 3.  It will again not complain.

Divide the fourth operating period to create period five.  Change period five to Quarter 2.

    Repeat until finished.

If you leave everything Quarter 1 the entire time, you can still repair the fiscal calendar.  Start by changing the Closing period to Quarter 2, then period twelve to Quarter 2, and so on to period four.  Then changing the Closing period to Quarter 3, then period twelve to Quarter 3, and so on to period seven.  Then do Quarter 4.

    Hello Jack G,

Is this question related to a 445 accounting period? If so, probably have a look at the following post www.arbelatech.com/how-to-create-a-4-4-5-calendar-in-ax-2012

    Best regards

    Ludwig
