Can a secondary operation have a different runtime than its primary counterpart?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am trying to get the BOM costing to calculate properly, and I am having issues with one of my secondary operations. I have a press that runs for 70 hours and manual labor that is needed only for 35 hours. The direct labor is the secondary operation, and I set its run time to be 35 hours. When I run the BOM calculation, my secondary operation is calculated for 70 hours instead of 35 - which then also throws off my overhead because it is manual labor dependent. I want my secondary operation to be calculated for the 35 hours, not the 70 hours that was depicted for the primary operation of running the press.

Is there a way to fix my problem? Or do I need to have two separate primary operations? We would really prefer to have these operations run in parallel with eachother as primary and secondary operations.

Thanks!

As far as I was able to find out, there is no way to have 2 parallel primary operations with different run time in AX. If you know a way to do so, I would appreciate the info.

As for the answer to your question, you can modify "Load" ("Resource requirements" tab) on your secondary operation to say that, e.g. only 50 % of the primary operation's load is charged to the secondary operation's resource. In your case: Primary operation's duration = 70 h => secondary operation's duration with 50 % load = 35 h.
