General link to the Preference Centre

Hello dear community,

We come from Mailchimp and are still new to Dynamics 365 Customer Insights Journeys.

We have a newsletter that we send out to our subscribers by email. We offer this newsletter as an online version on our company website.

We now have this link to the Preference Centre:

This link leads to our Preference Centre, where users can, for example, unsubscribe directly.

We have a link in our e-mail newsletter called ‘Read Online Version’. This link leads to the browser version.

Now I have taken the URL from the browser version and integrated it into our website. We have now noticed the error: If a user clicks on the website link to the online version and then clicks on ‘Update preferences’ to go to the Preference Centre - my email is displayed instead of the user's email.

What solutions are available? How can I create a general online version of our email newsletter that displays the user's email when they click on ‘Update preferences’?

I am grateful for all suggestions!

Thanks and kind regards

Steffen

It sounds like the issue is that the Preference Centre link is retaining the sender's email instead of dynamically displaying the recipient's email when accessed from the online version. Here are a few solutions to consider:
    1. Use Personalized Links – Ensure that the Preference Centre link in your email includes a dynamic parameter that passes the recipient's email address. In Dynamics 365 Customer Insights Journeys, this is typically done using personalization tokens like {Contact.Email}.
    2. Check Preference Centre Configuration – In Customer Insights - Journeys, go to Settings > Customer Engagement > Compliance Profiles and verify that the Preference Centre is correctly configured to capture user-specific data.
    3. Modify the Online Version URL – Instead of using a static URL for the online version, consider appending a query string with the recipient's email, such as ?email={Contact.Email}. This ensures that when users click "Update Preferences," their email is correctly passed to the Preference Centre.
    4. Use Custom JavaScript – If your website allows customization, you can implement JavaScript to detect the user's email from cookies or session data and dynamically update the Preference Centre link.
    5. Test with Different Email Clients – Some email clients may strip tracking parameters from links. Try testing with different email providers to ensure the issue isn't related to email client behavior.

    Hope this helps!
