Item weights in lbs and kg

Posted on by 2,348

Hello friends,

We setup the weight of our Items in pounds (lbs). When we ship internationally we run into the need to fill out the Shippers Letter of Instruction (or other export documents) in kg.

Is there a way in standard NAV to store the weight of an item in both lbs and kg, or have NAV convert the weight to kg when printing export documents for international sales? This only applies to our LTL shipments.

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Thank you for the responses. The common answer here seems to be a customization at the report level. In our case using the Item Units of Measure table to add multiple Units of Measure (for lbs and kg) doesn't seem to work because our items typically have the Base Unit of Measure set to 'EA' for Each.

So I will give more thought to a customization at the report level where either the report automatically converts to kg based on 'Ship-to Country/Region Code' or where the user can check a box at print time.

    Thank you very much,

    Alex A

    Hi Alex,

if you are talking about the Net Weight and Gross Weight in the item card, I'm quite sure these are the only fields where you can insert this type of information.

If you sell a bicycle where the unit of measure is the PCS, in the sales shipment you can find the weight retrieved from the item card; this weight is expressed in the unit of measure that you assume to use (for your business is lbs)

If you need to print the weight converted in Kg, I think you have to make a customization.

You can use a different Item Unit of Measure only if you have to sell an item where the base unit of measure is lbs.

Alex, I guess you probably know about the possibility of using the additional units of measure in addition to the base (in your case lbs) on item card. You would be able to enter them in documents, but during the posting, it would store it in item ledgers only in base units anyway.

In order to print it additional measurement units on your specific report, it would most likely require small customization. E.g., a checkmark "print in kg" on the report selection.

    Hi Alex,

In Item Master Card Page, you can define all the UoMs you want. Additionally you can try using Sales and Purch. Unit of Measure. I am not sure how far it is relevant to your scenario.

If you want to show both the lbs and kg in the same report, then it is a customization. It is fairly easy since, the table 5404 Item Unit of Measure has all the relationships that you have set on item master.

    Hope it helps.

    Hey Alex,

In item you can select base unit of measure and then can add multiple unit of measure

You can look at the following link

    www.youtube.com/watch

As well as you can modify the report to cater the requirement and write a program in report itself to convert it from lbs to kg for the shipments.
