Word Templates - Adding "Today's Date"

We are starting to use Word Templates to create documents from CRM. Some are generated through the Export to PDF button and some are generated through the Word Template button. I need to add /today's date/ to the document that will populate based on the date the document was generated - both in PDF and Word. Does anyone know the trick to get this done?
