Why are InventTrans records splitting on InventDimFixed for sales order lines?

This happens only occasionally. When the picking list is posted for a sales order there are multiple InventTrans records that are identical except for the InventDimFixed value. The first record is always defaulted to "0" for the InventDimFixed value, the second record is populated using the item dimensions set on the sales line. This is not a case where it's splitting on the warehouse or batch, everything is identical except for the InventDimFixed. Why would this value be defaulting to "0" on the first record, and being set from the sales line item dimensions on the second? This is keeping the records from being summed and is splitting the item on the picking list, even though the inventory is coming from the same Site/Warehouse/Batch.

If anyone ever runs into this I figured out a work-around. I still don't know what is causing the InventDimFixed values to be different on the transactions, but to keep the picking list from splitting I went to the WMSOrderTrans table's sumUp() method and commented out the line to include the InventDimFixed value in the where clause. I'd still like to know what's causing this though...
