Subgrid/view Paging displays 5000+ records for Virtual Entity

We have created a Virtual Entity and displayed it on a subgrid on a Model Driven App form. There are only a few records associated (4 records in the attached screenshot) but the pagination footer displays 5000+ records. Is there a way to make this display the exact number of records?
We are using Cosmos DB for the external database for the Virtual Entity.

Hope you can help me with this one.
