How to Write in D65 Table from another Application

Hello Experts,

I have one scenario, I have created one App in Power App to record Activity same way we Record in D365 , This app store data in SharePoint list. I want to link this App or the SP list data tp the "smmactivities" table in D365 so in one table we will have data of D365 Activities and App Activities. Did anyone perform such operation before or similar case ?

I understand that D365 Table Structure is completely different which generated RecID,RecVersion, dataareaid, partation  and other system generated  fields so writing from another application wont be easy. but expecting if any document guidelines or blogs or if someone has experience in this.

Please Advise.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Sachin,

If I got you right then you 'just' want to have a hyperlink from the D365FO activities to your sharepoint list, right?

Have you tried adding a new field in the activities table that could hold that link?

If you use PowerAutomate then you can get the hyperlink field automatically filled based on your requirements.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

My knowledge of the Power Platform is atrocious. But I can tell you that to be able to integrate with FO you'll need to use a custom service (not my preference) or a data entity (or dual write, but I think that uses the data entity in any case).

I briefly searched for "power apps d365 data entities" and found this page - it is for a lookup. But if you can build a lookup then writing won't be a problem.

Data Entities can keep you busy for quite a while. Here is the docs page. In short it denormalises tables and makes the data available for CRUD from outside F&O (basically F&O's API).

So if you want to write to smmActivities... I haven't done it before... The table structure is quite hectic (as you can create an activity from almost anything)... The standard entities that expose this table or concept are.... ***5min of Pete looking*** There are none... There are 2, one is labeled for CDS (which I understand is the source for the Power Platform?), but neither are public.

Hold on let me take a look. Will get back soon.

    Hi Sachin,

I don't think it's a good idea to sync the data from your app to dynamics.

Hello Ludwig, Thanks for looking into this. Actually i want to write data in the same table. same way when we create activity through D365. only link of SP list will not work in my case. i will tell you the reason.

I have created this App for sales people , when they are outside they cannot access D365F&O so i want them to record activity from outside so at that time data will store in SP list and through some Automatic import process all should go in the SMMActivities Table.

You'll need some custom development. I can't find any existing DE or service for activities. Creating a DE for activities in general will be quite a task. But if you are only handling a specific type of activity it shouldn't take that long. You'll need to get in contact with a F&O dev who'll create the DE for you which will then need to be deployed to whichever environment you integrating with. Then you can use it in your Power App. And I don't agree with Leo.

    Hello Pete,

Thank you so much for your response and investigation for this. I am still looking some other ways to achieve this. other wise i will definitely go for the custom development.

meanwhile you or anyone find some way or any reference for this custom development, i would be grateful.

Thank you again pete for your  valuable contribution

I would like to ask one more question , Through Power App data is going into SharePoint list and from share point i have created one flow using  Power Automate to transfer data in one new  SQL Table which is created by me.

So now lets consider we have data in other custom table , we just need to sync Custom table with SMMActivities ,table so all the data we will have in   SMMActivities  table.  what we can do for transfer data automatically from one table to another.

So there are exactly 2 ways to integrate with AX - OData and SOAP/JSON services. Any other way will not be easy. And if you do manage to do it, I'd strongly advise you not to. Any client with enough savvy will not be happy at all.

I suspect that you have not developed in AX. We do not write "directly" to the DB. Communication with the DB goes through a ton of methods and security.

I am not 100% sure that there is no data entity or service to integrate with smmActivites. But I am sure enough that if I am wrong I will strongly consider retiring from AX and starting a career in SAP. :D
