How to copy a label file (AX 2012)

Posted on by

HI,

We are working with several AOS on different servers.

We have created a new Label File and created several labels in that file. NOw we want to copy this file into another AOS. In ax 2009 we would have copied the ,ali, .ald and .alc file from one server to the other.

But in AX 2012 there are no physical file anymore, the lable file are in the database.

So how can we copy our new label files to another AOS?

    Hi,

labels (or label files) are now part of a model. When you export your a model, you also get the label exported with the model file. Code and labels are stored inside this model file.

When you will only move the label from one AX system to another, you can create a model which only "stores" your labels and export/import this model.

But keep in mind, if you have connected all your aos's to the same database (its only one AX System) you don't have to copy the label to each aos anymore. AX will handel this for you.

In addtion to my previos post:

It is also possible to import/export a label file allone without exporting/importing the whole model.

Open the AOT and goto the Label Files node. There you can find all your label files. Select the right Lable file and expand this node. Now you can see all Languages you have labels for (the label files itself). When you select one language (i.e en_us) you can right click on it an choose export.

This will export the Label file.

On the Label Files node in Aot it is also possible the import a label file. On this node right click and choose import to import the label file.

    Hope this also helsp you.

The label text is not getting included in the model file that I am exporting. We have some custom objects that we have developed. When I export those objects to a model file on a machine that displays everything correctly and then import that model file on a new machine, the labels ("@XYZ") appear and not the text. In order to get the text to appear I need to manually import the label file on the new machine. The post above would have me believe I should not have to do that. Just import the model file, run the SW Update checklist and everything should be fine. Am I missing something?

First, check the label file in AOT in the target environment. If it's missing (or not updated) there, the problems is really in export/import, otherwise the problem would be somewhere else.

Then look into the source environment. Is the label file really included in the exported model?

Our .ald files are developed in the var layer and In looking in the AOT the source and target labels are present however the labels still seem to have to be manually imported (startupcmd=aldimport) after we perform a Model File Deployment from one AX Environment to another.  Any thoughts on how to get these var label files to show after the MF deployments?
