Hello,
from information I have found on Microsoft and forums I understand there are two options for upgrading to D365.
A) From AX2012 it is an upgrade process. To describe it at a very high level the steps are:
1. Run a tool to transfer code changes from AX2012 to D365.
2. Export the AX2012 database.
3. Import the AX2012 database into the D365 database.
4. Run a tool to upgrade the data to the D365 structure.
So this is a "Big Bang" approach.
B) For AX2009 the approach is data migration. There is a tool running in AX2009 which allows us to convert and export the AX2009 data to a format which can be loaded into D365 relying on the DIXF. This approach is more selective. We can do it on an entity by entity basis, selecting the range of data we move between versions - for example we can move only active vendors based on some filter.
My question is - does Microsoft support variant B but for AX2012? By support I mean is there a tool available which we can install onto our AX2012 which will allow us to export the data we need into a format suitable for import into D365 with minimal development effort on our side?
Best regards,
Grzegorz
