One sales tax group to multiple Sales tax codes (multiple countires)

Dear experts

I am looking for knowledge if this is a good/bad idea and what the pros and cons might be.

Setup: One legal entity (company) that have customer all over the world.

Instead of having multiple sales tax groups (normally one for each country or state) you could have one sales group, for example, the EU or USA, where each and every sales tax code is then specified to one country or state. Would that make sense?

Example with a sales tax group "Europe". To that group, we have sales tax codes with value for each country, like Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, etc.

The sales tax group "USA" will then have all the states as sales tax codes.

Please let me know what you think of this setup and why it might/might not work. I haven't found anything else like this on the web.

Best regards,

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Valdemar B,

Isn't what you describe available in the Microsoft Contoso demo machines?

Did you check the setup that Microsoft made in those environments for example for Germany (DEMF), USA (USMF) and other companies?

To me it sounds similar to what you describe.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Good Morning Valdemar,

Did you have the chance to take a look at the MS setup?

Is this what you were looking for?

Would be great if you could keep us updated.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Dear Ludwig.

Yes, thank you for your answer. It is not quite what I am looking for. The Contoso environment (Germany) seems only to have a single authority, which is in Germany. The USMF environment seems to have tax authorities only in the  USA.

What I am looking for and asking for, is a setup where (as an example) the DEMF is selling to customers all over the world and therefore have to pay taxes in multiple countries where the tax rates are different. This requires multiple tax authorities and multiple tax codes. I am then asking, if you could create tax groups and then divide these groups into larger areas, like the USA, Asia, Europa, etc. so that the EU tax group contain all the tax codes and authorities from the EU countries.

    I hope it makes sense.

    Best regards,

    Valdemar
