Consolidation of companies to other company.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everyone,

Is there a possibility of consolidation of company in NAV 2009?

Let say that i have company 1 to 10 in my database, i want it to be consolidated from company 1-10 to company 11.  Meaning that the company 11 is the consolidation of all company of the database, all data of company 1-10 can be seen to the company 11.

If that is possible, can you help me guys on how to configure / mapped all company 1-10 to company 11.

Thanks & Regards.

Katana

Raokman, I do not say it does not require modifications; I consider them just a better option then trying to consolidate all the data available. Personally I do not like that Global dimension option as it indeed has drawbacks, however we had few projects that worked.

If you really have such a need, then the initial setup should have been done differently. Instead of having many NAV companies, you should have created just one NAV company, where you will have one Global Dimension used for separation of the companies. That would allow you to see all the customers, vendors, G/L entries, warehouse info in one place and separate it by dimension value if you need to see it by certain company.

using global dimensions to account for multiple legal entities within one NAV 'company' does NOT work. CanNOT be done, not without extensive modifications, resulting in a mongrel monster.

Usually full data from all companies is not needed. Having this would require customization and is not available in standard NAV.

The difficulty here is to enable printforms (e.g., invoices) to contain correct company's info as there are just one company info details available by default. However this is much smaller customization then trying to consolidate al possible data from many companies to a one company.

I could see a need if the companies are separate for legal reasons, but carry the same items, sell to the same customers, and use the same vendors.

Under one of the above scenarios, it might be nice to be able to see the inventory available, or the balance due, for all of these related companies.

Having all data of all companies, consolidated in one company, is usually a challenging task, and the first issue would be to properly consolidate references - item cards, customers, vendors, in a way that it would be usable. I support Vishal as normally consolidation is needed not for operations but for reporting purposes and thus is not needed more than on G/L level.

    Ben,

That is right. If you want all the data in company then you need to go for customization.

I was under impression about G/L level consolidation.

Katana: Why do you need all data in single company. You can easily manage the same via report using ChangeCompany function.

    Hi,

I think that Katana wants to know that if it is possible to consolidate ALL data not only GL.

    I don't think this is available 'out-of-the-box'.

Will need customization or add-on product.

    Regards,

    Ben

    Hi Katana,

It is very much possible to have consolidation of various companies within same database or even separate database.

Follow this link for the complete details. We have used this feature at multiple places
