Handling of weight items in AX2012 R3 WHS

Can anybody suggest the solution for handling of weight items in AX2012 R3 CU12 WHS.

We have a following business case: there're LP's with items of various weight inside (e.g. LP weight is 2.1. kg. of 5 cut and packed cheese pcs., each pcs. of cheese has uniqe weight). While picking of sales orders, it should be possible to pick either full LP (that's allright) or some pcs. of cheese from particular LP (that's an issue). 

The issue is how to enter weight of items picked from LP while partial picking ? Standard behaviour of AX suppose to pick item from LP only once, let's say 1.5 kg out of 2.1 kg. However those 1.5 kg. could be represented by 3 pcs. of cheese, each with unique weight, therefore warehouse employee will have to scan 3 items resulting 1.53 kg.

    Sounds like you are describing a Catch weight scenario, which is where you handle an item in two units of measure; e.g. kg and Pcs.

    However, WHS and Catch weight are not currently compatible in standard AX. Both Edgewater Fullscope and Blue Horseshoe offer solutions for enabling catch weight items and WHS to be used together.

    www.bhsolutions.com/.../warehouse-management-for-ax (although it doesn't appear to mention it, Advanced WAX handles catch weight).

    Fullscope were the original developers of AX Catch Weight functionality; Blue Horseshoe were the original developers of AX WHS functionality.

    Thanks for quick reply. Actually inventory unit of measure for item is kg. and we don't need to keep pcs. as a second unit.

    Items are being produced in kg. and sales orders are made in kg. as well. The only issue, we don't know precise quantity on the sales line while making it, however we'll know it while piking.

    e.g. there will be work order to pick 2.5 kg from LP01, warehouse employee will pick 2.51 kg from LP1, the issue is that we'll have to pick two or three times of item in order to get 2.51 kg (it doesn't matter how many pcs. there will be in those 2.51 kg).

    Hi Andre,

    I couldn't think of a way to get this behaviour without catch weight. The closest I could find was to tick 'Allow splitting of work' on the mobile device menu item. It gives you a 'Full' button on the hand held, which allows you to enter the actual quantity you want to pick. But then the handheld directs you to put this to the Put location (the outbound dock, or a staging area if you are using them). Maybe you could get creative with the staging option to give you something; but I don't think it's exactly what you want.
