Items cost in GL for negative inventory

(1) ShareShare

Dears,

I am using Ax 2012 R2 UC7 (with retail module). I have a practical issue where some retail items at stores get negative value (that is available inventory is -ve). My problem is that when at night we post the sales; the cost of items with negative inventory is not considered at GL level (or any other financial statement). the posted cost for -ve inventory items is posted as zero.

Now my financial report are not correct as it is showing higher cost because cost of items with -ve inventory cost has not been considered.

Any ideas on the reason of that or the solution/workaround?

Not a retail person, but in standard AX it will not adjust or process costs where the on-hand is negative, so you would need to get the on-hand back to a point where the stock is 0 or positive, run the inventory close and it will calculate the costs. AX does not like to post the cost for something you dont have :-)

    Hi Maalahmed,

Please also check that your items are setup with cost prices especially if you have not purchased and sold them before. That is because AX allows you selling items even before you have posted a cost value e.g. through a packing slip / PO invoice, resulting in a negative stock value.

The periodic inventory close / recalculation process that Steven mentioned should fix your cost price issue. Please run it and see if it helps.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Steven & Ludwig,

If I checked the "Last purchased price"  and we specified a value in the cost price. Should the system consider this value as default (or estimated) when posting sales with -ve inventory?

Hi Maalahmed, The cost price value should be the one that you see when posting a sales order. This estimate price will be updated through inventory close. Hope it helps, Ludwig

No, it would consider the item cost price not the purchase one, but it does depend upon your costing method of course!

Thanks guys. Seems this would resolve our issue.
