How do you delete an entire column in Microsoft Dynamics AX?

Greetings,

I've recently begun at a company, and they use Microsoft Dynamics AX. I have received the task to remove data in the column "Cost Center" for every row that is above "5000".

I have filtered it (CTRL+G) by writing down 5* in the filter, but I noticed there are thousands of rows. Right now I'm removing the data manually (so not the entire row, just the number written in the Cost Center). Is there an easier way to do so? Is there a way to select multiple rows and delete only what's inside the column "Cost Center"?

I thank you for your help, and I'm sorry if my question's a little bit unclear. English isn't my native language, but if asked I'll gladly try to make it more clear.

Kind regards,

Matthias

PS: if necesarry, I will post a screenshot (leaving out the data you don't really have to know)

    Hi Matthias,

    Which version of AX is this company using?

    On which entity/form are you deleting this column?

    I do hope you are not modifying transactions manually?

    In some versions of AX a "fill utility" exists for mass update data.

    You may create a job, with the code below. but, before that please make sure that the points mentioned by Calavon are all covered.

    ttsbegin;

    while select tableName

    {

       TableName.FieldName = '';

       TableName.update();

    }

    ttscommit;

    Hello,

    Our company uses Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009.

    I'm doing this in Project --> Project Details.

    No, I'm not modifying the transactions.

    Where would I find this "fill utility"?

    Thanks a lot for your time though!

    Hi Matthias,

    The fill utility is available in AX2009, but by default not activated. You can enable it within the form  'Configuration'which you can find in menu Administration, Setup, System.

    Under the node 'Administration' in this coniguration form you can enable the 'Fill utility'. Note that you have to synchronize the database.

    When it is enabled you can go to the project details. Right click on the cost center field and choose the menu option 'Record info'. You have now the option for 'Fill utility'.

    Click the button and follow the steps. You can redefine the query to have a selection on all projects with the cost center above 5000. Before you get the option for a new value, you have a summary of all records involved.

    When you or someone else is experienced in x++ also a job can be created like Saurabh mentioned.

    Hello Andre,

    Thank you for your time for helping me out. I believe I do not have enough rights to do this, as I cannot find the form "Configuration" in Administration.

    Thanks anyways for trying, and I hope you have a nice day!
