Fixed asset retirement issues

Is it possible to retire an asset after October was closed with a retire date of 11/1/2016 and not incur depreciation for the next month?

Example: We closed October and then retired an asset as of 11/1/2016 but for some reason after running GL posting the Acc Depr was the amount after depreciation for November had taken place. Yet when I check Depreciation ledger by class and Retirements by class the Acc Depr shows what it is at 10/31/2016. We've been dealing with this issue for a long time and we really want to get it resolved. We want it to not take depreciation for the month of November and want the GL to agree with our reports.
