Nav2016: 'Non stock' v 'Service Item' setup query?

Can an item setup under 'non stock items' be I used on a service contract quote? If so, how to I allow this?
Alternatively, do all 'non stock items' that you want to use on a 'service contract' also need to be setup separately as 'service Items' as well? (Relates to setting up NAV to do Annual Telephone support contracts)

It is advisable to create as service item instead of non stock item.
