I like to get some idea about staying current under the Modern Lifecycle Policy for Dynamics GP. According to articles listed be below, in order for the product to remain in Support, we need to stay "current". To stay current, we need to apply one of the 3 annual releases.
1) Does it mean one of the last 3 annual releases?
2) Usually when we apply new Releases, it is necessary to prepare test environment, do test upgrade, re-create customized dexterity dictionaries, test all customization and so on. The process can take several months depending on complexity of customizations.
In the Fixed Lifecycle policy, we could do the GP version upgrade every 3 to 5 years and still stay within supported timeframe. Under Modern Lifecycle policy, it seems we need to do this process at least once a year even when new features are not critical to the customer.
What is the best way to manage this? It would be good if Microsoft support each GP Release for about 5 years. Any thoughts welcome, Thank you!

Understanding the Lifecycle Policies for Dynamics GP
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/terms/lifecycle
The current version of Dynamics GP is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy. The Modern Lifecycle Policy offers support and servicing, including bug fixes, new features, and latest tax updates. Under this policy, Dynamics GP customers stay current by taking at least one of the three all-inclusive Dynamics GP updates, typically released in June, October, and December each year. The October update typically delivers new capabilities. The two other updates will typically consist of hotfixes, tax updates, and any relevant regulatory updates.
