Using both Manufacturing Module and Project Accounting Modules together

Posted on by 25

Has anyone successfully used the manufacturing module and project accounting modules together? We are a project-based manufacturer so have need for both. Currently using manufacturing with job costing, but the progress billing capability of project accounting would solve a lot of our problems.

Thanks for the answer, Isaac. I think our biggest concern is we heavily rely on MRP in the manufacturing module to drive planning and procurement and from the research we've done so far, project accounting does not tie into/talk to MRP. Is that true from your perspective as well?

    Hi Mariya,

Hopefully there is a consultant or other users in the community that can confirm whether they have been able to use both Manufacturing and Project Accounting in the same fashion that you are looking for.  In General for Project Accounting you are going to use Inventory Transfers to consume Inventory items used on the Project so if your goal is to manufacture items that will be consumed by a project, then this might be a good fit for you.

Let's say that my Project is installing HVAC in a house and you are manufacturing the furnace, once you have built the furnace you would transfer the inventory to the project and it would be consumed by the project and you could bill it.

Now if you were planning on using the Progress billing to bill parts of the furnace as they were made while the Furnace is being manufactured, I don't know if that would work for you because when you transfer the inventory to the project it would get consumed/sold so you wouldn't have that quantity or parts left to manufacture the actual item.

Ultimately, there are many variables to how you do business that would contribute to whether the answer to this would work well for you.   I am not aware of anyone running these side by side from a support perspective, but hopefully if anyone in the community is using these 2 in the manner that you want to they will chime in.

It might be worth giving a try in a test company if you have an install with both modules on it to see if it meets your needs.

    I hope this helps!
