2012 R3 Visual Studio Development Environment Setup

Hi Folks,

 I'm new to AX development and have deployed a standalone test /dev environment (2012 R3). Have configured this as per the install guide. Going through a couple of development guide and whilst using Morph X and X++ seems straightforward enough also I wish to try Visual Studio to see what is possible using managed code.

My development machine is Win 10 with VS 2010 / 2013 / 2015. I installed the client on this PC and can run DAX ok. I then ran the AX installer for "Visual Studio Tools"; this completed ok however I opened VS2010 and the tools were not listed. I saw CU11 was available (was on CU9) so put this into the "updates" folder in the installer and this made "Visual Studio 2013 Tools" available. I also installed this and again it completed ok but I cannot see anything listed in VS. No errors or log issues that I can see.

Any idea where I am going wrong?

    When you install these tools it literally adds couple of new project types to VS and access to Application explorer msdn.microsoft.com/.../cc637855.aspx

    What kind of tools are you looking for ?

    Good starting point could be msdn msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg889299.aspx

    Thanks ievgen the links you provided help me figure it out. The installation was fine I just needed to add the project to the AOT. I was expecting to see "Dynamics AX" listed under Extensions / Updates and an item on the toolbar immediately but this is not the case.
