Changing Units of Measure?

I realize that the answer to the question "Is there an easy way to change the UofM of an item?" is "No!", so I've resigned to the idea that it's not going to be easy.

We have a single UofM Schedule that doesn't meet our differing UofM needs (decimal places and UofM pricing)  The decimal places causes a few inefficiencies, however, my real problem is that this one UofM schedule doesn't have case quantities, but I need to be able to price my products including cases and pallets. (currently only "Each" is configured)

I have created a new UofM Schedule called "FG-Stock" (Finished Goods Stock) that has the decimal place and case/pallet relationships that are required for FG Items, and now I'd like to change them to use it.

I can't change the UofM Schedule of an item if the decimal places between the UofM & Item don't match.  So I run the "Change Decimal Places" utility, and it works (provided there are no outstanding transactions).  Then I can't change the UofM Schedule if there are (Extended Pricing) Price Sheets - so I remove the Price Sheet Entries, and try again.  Now it tells me that "The Unit Of Measure Schedule for the item class and the price group must match", but the UofM Schedule on all my ClassID records is blank, and changing it means removing all the (hundreds of) items from it first.

Changing a UofM Schedule of an item isn't easy.  I get that.  But is it, in fact, impossible?  Am I going about this the wrong way?  Can anyone help?

Currently using GP10.0, if that matters.

Are you actively using Extended Pricing?  Is deleting the price groups an option? I know its a pain, and I will admit that I haven't had to every change the U of M on a large scale when using Extended Pricing....

     Take care,

Unfortunately, we are, quite extensively. However, I do need to replace them, so deleting, or re-assigning them is definitely an option.

This change may have to be executed on an item-by-item basis, so while slow, it's not out of the question.

(I learned since posting my question that the UofM is contained in the Price Group record, so that doesn't surprise me, but what about the ClassID?  Isn't the ClassID just a way to set a bunch of 'default' settings for account information, etc?  I'm afraid that resetting the ClassID, if it's more than that, is going to cause more of a problem.

    Appreciate your input- thanks.

Did you ever get past this message?

I'm testing this scenario right now with a widely-used raw material, and the "The unit of measure schedule for the item class and the price group must match" message has put me in an endless loop.  This item class doesn't have any U of M schedule, so it must be complaining because one is blank.  I'm getting to the point where I may just update the record through the back end, and hope for the best.

I'd love to hear how you resolved this...thanks!  Jill

     Jill-

Still working on it, actually.  Since our ned encompasses thousands of items, we can't work thorugh them one at a time, so we had to engage the assistance of a consultant.

If you're using Extended pricing, it's possible that the "PriceGroup" field of the item master, which I think comes from/is used in the "Standard Pricing" module may be blank, and that's the source of the error message.  (I'd call it a bug)

Try changing the  Price Group of the item in question to something else, then back to the original (the old Windows(tm) trick) and that may reset it to the correct setting.  Then change your UoM again and see if you get the error.

    ;-D
