Dear Team,

Greetings!!!

We have a resource field on the employee card, where we can specify which resource card is associated with the employee. Is this field just for information about the related resource, or can we perform any other operations based on this functionality?

If yes, what other functions can we perform?

Hi,

As I understand the Resource field on the Employee Card is used to link an employee with a resource, so that the employee’s work can flow into operational areas like jobs, service orders, and timesheets (which post on resources).

This link makes it possible to use the same data for payroll, bonuses, and attendance in HR, while also enabling reporting and cost tracking since postings are done at the resource level.

This mainly associates Employees and Resources.

Employees can be posted in General Journals, but Resources cannot. When analyzing reports, it will be helpful to associate them.

In additional, Resources can associate the User ID.

Hope this can give you some hints as well.

The Resource field on the Employee card in Business Central is mainly for linking an employee to a resource for reference and reporting. It doesn’t drive transactions automatically. However, it can be useful if you want to:

Connect employees to resources for capacity or job planning.

Run reports that align HR data (employees) with operational data (resources).

Use it in customizations or integrations where resource usage is tied back to employees.

By default, it’s informational and doesn’t impact posting or costing.
