NAV Help point to wrong server

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by Microsoft Employee

1 user has a wrong server name when using NAV help.
No ClientUserSettings.config in personal folder. (All other users has the same environment and have no problem with the Help button).
In C:\ProgramData\... the ClientUserSettings.config has the correct Help Server.

User profile removed. After that the Help server was different then before, but still not the Help server it should be.
Is this setting stored somewhere else like Registry or in ERP database personal table(s) or..?

I'm glad that worked for you.  Please can you confirm my answer in case it helps others?

As to the settings possibly being somewhere else I am not aware of any locations other than those mentioned above except if the NAV shortcut has been configured to specifically load a file from elsewhere with the "-settings" switch.

Hi Paul, changing the NAV client to an other instance and back, did also not help.
Created the NAV .../90 folder in users profile and copied the config file to it, did the trick, as described by Microsoft.
So far user happy. But strange that without doing this NAV Help is using a url from somewhere and we do not know where it is stored.

That's strange. This MSDN article still claims that's where the file should be:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd301077(v=nav.90).aspx

And can confirm it's still there on NAV 2017 which I've just installed on another machine as a test.

If you click the Application Menu and do Select Server so it thinks you're switching to another but just click OK it might write it again. Failing that you could try creating the version folder yourself and copying the file from ProgramData to it and changing the HelpServer value in that copy.

    EDIT:

To be clear (just in case) when I put the word, 'version' I mean the version number, e.g.:

For NAV 2013 R2 it would be a subfolder called 71

For NAV 2015 it would be 80

For NAV 2016 it would be 90

For NAV 2017 it is 100

Hi Paul, perhaps i was not clear enough, but in AppData there is no subfolder "....\version" and for that no ClientUserSettings.config in users profile. This is also for all other users where the Help is working fine.

    Hi

If it's the same as for NAV 2013 R2 try AppData instead of ProgramData.

    E.g.

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\version\ClientUserSettings.config

    or

    e.g. C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\version\ClientUserSettings.config

    Look for :

        <add key="HelpServer" value="computername" />

Should be about two-thirds of the way down the file.

    Hope that helps

    Paul
