How can we edit report 1306 field lables

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have no developer licence in my company, but we are able to maintain our own word templates for standard reports. For example we have customized a word template for report 1306 Sales - Invoice.

We use standard field lables (like YourReference_Lbl in below example) from the XML data. We sometimes want a different label text, and thought about using a fixed text in the word layout instead of the standard field label, but this is not a good solution, because we also want to be able to print in 2 languages.

Can we edit the field label texts without a developer licence?

    Yes, NAV 2017.

I agree with your thoughts.... (even being a developer myself)

    Hi Jan

Thanks for reply and possible work-around.

By newest release you mean 2017?

I have NAV 2016 9.045243.0 and I can only select layout per company. Not per customer.

I think developers are not trained to be qualified translators, so the fact that you need a developer license to do translations is .... eeeehh I don't know what I think it is. Maybe a nice opportunity for Microsoft  to improve NAV.

Currently all labels and texts are actually in the NAV objects, not in a table or some other out-of-code place.

So, to change labels on your reports, you will need (someone with access to) a developer license.

As a work-around, only in the newest release of NAV:

you can have customer specific layouts - in that case you could have one layout using language 1 and another layout using language 2. Then you could have one of these as your default layout (the one that has the most used language), and then set up the other layout for customers needing the 'other' language.

It should be pretty clear that the issue is still open.

I know how to change the Word template as decribed in the links you supply.

It doesn't seem logical to me if the translation of lables/captions/texts are a part of the built-in Report ifself. I would rather expect the translations to be stored in a table in the database. A table I might be able to update with a simple query.

But maybe this is just wishfull thinking?

We can modify a layout of built-in Report from the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment only.

Unfortunately, I think, there is a need of developer license for this.

You can try below links, if those can be of any help to you.
