Changing AX Default Email Client

I have a customer that is using Lotus notes email client. The email still gets created in Lotus notes, but AX always tries to open up Outlook. Is there a way to ensure AX uses the Windows specified default email client (in this case Lotus notes)? and not automatically try look for Outlook?

Dynamics AX is only supporting Microsoft Outlook for mail client integration via MAPI. Your only alternative solution would be directly sending the mail via SMTP, there are a ton of custom code for that in AX if you search, but then your user wouldn't see the mail in Lotus as outbound message.

The email is still created in the lotus notes client, and the user has to just click 'send'.

It does however return an error (see below).. any ideas about this error?

COM object of class 'outlook.application' could not be created. Ensure that the object has been properly registered on computer 'ATLAS'.

Clicking on the error message with an Administrator account would allow you to "Edit" it in most of the cases, and navigates you to the code where the error was thrown. If not, you may put a breakpoint in the Info class add() method and see for yourself. That might reveal what is going on, and go around the problem in your environment by commenting out the pieces which you do not need.
