C# Project from TEST to LIVE

Hi All,

We have a Visual Studio C# project which we have modified in the TEST environment from the Visual studio and deployed it. Now we want to move the same changes on the C#project in to AX production environment where we don't have visual studio installed. Could you please let us know the best option to do it. Thank you

Regards

Venkat

If you modify code in TEST, it's actually a development environment and you want to deploy code from this development directly to production without testing it first in a test environment. It's clearly not recommended.

If you've added the C# project to AOT, it's now a part of the model and it'll be included when you deploy a model or the whole modelstore. Please read Deploying Customizations Across Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Environments to learn how to do deployments. Also, don't forget to set deployment target(s) on the project after adding to AOT. I strongly recommend you introduce an additional environment and test the deployment before going to production.

    Hi Martin,

Thanks a lot for sharing the details. So, can i keep the c#project added to AOT included in to a AX project and exported and imported in to PROD as it is tested already.

    Regards

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're asking about. Please try to explain it once more.

And don't forget to tell us what you're exporting and importing (e.g. the modelstore).

    Hi Martin,

I have created a shared project which also includes c#project in that from AOT. Can we export the same project from TEST and import in PROD Environment.

No, exporting and importing projects isn't a reasonable way for deploying code to production. It's intended for development, which shouldn't be done in production and it would indeed require development tools in production.

You can either deploy individual models or the whole modelstore. The recommended approach for production is the modelstore - it transfers exactly the version you've tested (if you actually start doing it), without any risk of omitted objects and such things and it doesn't require compilation in production, which reduces the time when production is unavailable.

It seems that you still haven't read Deploying Customizations Across Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Environments, so please do it now.
