Retired Products and Opportunity Line Items

What happens to line items on open opportunities if the Existing Product selection is updated to "Retired"?

Do we have to replace the retired product with an active equivalent product on all open opportunities?

Or will the retired product on existing line items be allowed to finish the sales process until the opportunity is won or lost?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Interesting question. I've never tried it.

If the system behaves like I would expect it to....

You'll never be allowed to "close" out the open opportunity as it won't allow you to create the invoice for a retired product.

Retiring the Product when there are still open opportunities, I have no idea.

Do you have a DEV/Test system where you could try it out?

    Regards,

    Shaun

    Hi,

Currently, there is no impact on existing Line items of Open Opportunity if the product selected on the existing Line item gets Retired but if you try to add a new line item, the retired product will no longer be available to add to an Open Opportunity.

And yes, it is up to you if you want to continue with the Retired product which is added to the existing opportunity then you can continue with the same as OOB does not restrict the user to do further sales process (i.e. Create Quote, Order & Invoice) means the user can still Won/Lost opportunity that contains the retired product in the line item.

Or else if you want to replace the retired product added on existing line items of Open Opportunities with the Active equivalent product (that you must have created as a replacement of the retired product) you can do that as well. (you can use the OOB import functionality as well in case there are bulk records you want to update).

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
