We currently have Dynamics 365 CRM 8.2.28 up and running on a Windows 2016 server. The license is a workgroup license from the Microsoft Action Pack. It was originally installed as Dynamics 2016 and one of the updates changed the name to 365, not sure which one but it was early on. Now we see that Version 9 is available. Is there a new license required for this update? We contacted the Microsoft Partner group with the Action pack support and they told us that all they license is 2016 and that is the most current but we all know that isnt the case. I am wondering if I apply the 9 installer will it do an upgrade or will it ask for a new license? Is there a better contact at Microsoft that may know? They dont seem to know much.
Hey!
Is there a new license required?
Yes, there's a new license requirement, as the product is different and has evolved.
How to get the license?
In the past, dual use right keys for up to CRM 2016 (v8.x) where retrieved based on the Dynamics price list (DPL). DPL does not provide keys for Dynamics v9.x so you need to reach the Regional Operation Center/MBS Customer Care Operations team by email and request these types of keys.
