Hi,
Need to set-up the Item serial number as Unique not only for an Item but across all the Items in the Item master.
How to achieve this?

Have you activated the 'serial number control' parameter in the tracking dimension group form, which will make Serial numbers unique?

We had the same question as the original one in this thread. but I have questions about your suggestion. We use AX2012 R3. We don't use advanced warehouse management.
We need a unique identifying number across AX to track all stock movements on some items that are purchased.
We do not manufacture these products. We purchase these items, tag them uniquely to loan, lease and/or sell them. We need a unique number across AX because when that number is scanned, it needs to refer to a single product instance (without having to scan the product number before).
In our case, each released product will have a unique serial number format (through the serial number group and its number sequence), but AX doesn't seem to ensure/prevent that the serial number is unique across the system.
We ran some tests and our obervations show that if you use 2 number sequences with the same format for 2 products, AX will not prevent these 2 products from having the same serial numbers even if the "Serial number control" option is checked in the tracking dimension group.
Do we understand correctly how the "Serial number control" option works?
Is there a way to validate that the serial number is unique across all products?
